So I figured, fuck it, I’m pretty used to working on PC internals, I’ll take a chance and attempt the repair myself. I did some digging around and found a relatively solid guide on replacing a 24″ iMac’s hard drive courtesy of OctoMac. Mac Station wasn’t much better: they offered to install a 1 TB hard drive for around $320. ![]() The Apple Store was willing to wave labor charges on account of my warranty having only just recently expired, but they quoted me at about $420 for the replacement drive. No big deal, right? A brand new 1.5 TB hard drive is only $110. About a month ago, and only six weeks out of warranty, the hard drive in my iMac up and died. This is my first (and so far, only) Mac OS X based PC, and I bought it primarily to finally experience first-hand what all of the Mac fans are so excited about, as well as with the idea that if I just threw some odd $2000 at a factory assembled computer then I could have a relatively stable system for at least a few solid years. ![]() In the fall of 2008 I bought a top of the line Intel 24″ iMac Aluminum, the one with the GeForce 8800 card in it.
